Early Publications

For twenty plus years Rick has written articles on occasion for the Civil War Courier and as of late for the Camp Chase Gazette. In the early days he wrote a series about Captain Tod Carter. Taking on a first-person impression, Rick told the story as if Tod were still living and writing under his pen name, The Mint Julep.                                                                                             Rick's second series was about General Leonidas Polk, and his legacy known as The University of the South. The institution was under a political attack to change its name, so Rick tried to sway public opinion in a positive manner with very informative articles about General Polk.

After the yearlong series was published in the Civil War Courier, Rick compiled this book to sell to the public.

In The Hills Of Tennessee

Author Rick Revel's creativity has earned him honors in several fields of professional endeavors.

Colonel Tom McKenney not only had a distinguished military record as a Marine, but he also had a long successful career in civilian life as an author of historical literature.

Rick met Colonel Tom McKenney several years ago after "One Man's War" was published. Tom's biography about Jack Hinson left a deep impression on Rick after he read "One Man's War" from cover to cover.

Finding inspiration from Tom's writings, Rick wrote a song titled "The Ballad Of Captain Jack" one evening and recorded the tune the very next day. Within a couple of months, he met Mr. McKenney and played him the song. Tom loved the song and invited Rick to be a part of his book tour.                                                                                                    As their friendship grew, Tom challenged Rick to write a screenplay for his book. A month later a first draft was delivered, and second challenge was given. Liking Rick's script, Tom suggested that Rick turn the screenplay into a historic fiction novel.                                                                         "In The Hills Of Tennessee", may contain some fictional dialogue, but the rest is historical content that will educate and entertain you at the same time.

Writing a novel has its challenges without a doubt. The author always wants the story to be as authentic and believable as possible. Rick nails it with his historic fiction novel.
